Critical Hit Ideas...

The main idea is to expand the Warrior class using Critical Hit...

I'm thinking that at level 10 (this would give newbies a chance to get to know the mud before getting launched into something too complicated) the warrior could have a choice of choosing a weapon mastery/specialty/whatever we want to call it. They could choose either blunt, pierce, or slash. By choosing a particular weapon to master, the warrior would gain a small chance to have critical hits when using that type of weapon. So at level 10, if the warrior chose to Master all types of Slash weapons, they would have a 1% critical hit chance when using a slash weapon. This wouldn't mean that they wouldn't be able to use other weapons, they simply wouldn't get the critical hit chance.

At later levels, this mastery could be further practiced to increase the critical hit %. So if further refined at level 25, 40, and 65 the combined critical percent could reach 8% for instance.

Another direction we could go in, would be to allow the player to broaden their weapon choice at the higher levels. So at level 10, they could choose Slash, and gain 1% critical hit. At level 25 they could either refine Slash and boost it to 3%, or decide to also learn Blunt to bring it up to 1%. So technically, we could have a jack-of-all-trades master of none, or a master of one speciffic weapon. It would have to be ONE OR THE OTHER, we wouldn't want players mastering all weapon types...

Also, certain classes could get a natural boost (or practiced at guilds) to certain weapon types, as it fits their class. Thieves could have a natural affinity to piercing weapons, clerics to blunt weapons etc. Paladins/Antipaladins maybe could have a choice similar to warriors but a choice of either blunt or slash (no pierce). Necros would probably be a pierce class (could open up different poison dagger skill/spells). You get the idea...

Maybe this is something that could get added to an upcoming guild/profession. Weaponmaster? Something similar? (9/23/08)
