PriestWizard
Latest pondering... priest is not liked really at all... wizard isn't highly popular any more either
- Remove Priest as a class
- create priest as remort-only, cleric-only sub-class
- This would allow a cleric/priest to use mana or memorize for any spell (or mixed)
- would need to decide which would be consumed first (mana or pray)
Same for wizard...
only I was thinking to remove scribe from wizards... and create a sorcerer-only sub-class that has been talked about before... Spellweaver
Spellweaver
- Must be a sorcerer/wizard (high level 30 wizard required) (creating a sorc/wiz/sw combo)
- scribe, in two forms...
- First, works same as scribe does now...
- Second (at higher levels), create scrolls that grant casts (grant scrolls)
- Leveling requires something complex, or at least not as simple just exp or kills
Just some thoughts... What if the wizard/priest as a subclass gets expanded beyond sorc/cleric. Could we have a necromancer wizard? Does priest/wizard get combined into spellweaver? (i,e why have both pray and memorize if they accomplish the same thing - the main difference between priest/wizard currently is healing vs damage). Maybe the grantable scribe is a secondary guild... Sorcerer -> Spellweaver -> Spellgranter - have to be a lvl 30 Spellweaver to enter the Spellgranter guild.
Also, lets try to think of exploits if we allow the combination of mana and memorize/prays. Are there any? --Gargamel
I don't think exploits will be an issue. I almost think of it as granting the ability to "backup" your mana with memorized reserves. But we could also do something like, if they've memorized a spell, it won't use mana at all for that spell until all the mem's are spent (and semi-perm or whatever it's call now could still work into that). But it's something that would need some testing to see how it would actually work out. It would be really easy to create the sub-class now so we can play with it, and not have to touch the existing class. Who knows, after testing, it could still be a bad idea :P
I didn't consider Necro in the mix, but I probably should have. I know in essence, the semantics of how priest and wizard are the same, but it's still a role-play aspect (if we decided to allow a sorc/wiz/priest, the spellcast system could handle you having some mem's, pray's and consume mana for spells). I wouldn't want to make a Cleric/Wizard combo available, unless the cleric was gaining some more offensive spells in the mix, it sound weird to me. A Necro/Wizard makes sense to me though. We could even expand it as AntiPal/Wizard and Paladin/Priest.
I'm not sure about separating the grant type to another sub-class, unless we could come up with diff things for both the sub-classes to do besides the scrolls. I was thinking the spellweaver (or maybe a different name is in order) could learn how to do things like create wands and staff's along the way. Maybe it should be considered a profession instead of a sub-class? Because they're focus is creating physical objects (another thought). Actually, along that line, it makes sense to have another guild that builds upon it... hmm... but it still would need more to it than that... which is also why I was thinking it should ahve to do something non-traditional to level so it can get these new abilities.
