The Guild of Clerics and Priests have closed up shop for the time being. They have grown weary of the Gods withdrawing their protection from Midgaard and do not have the patience to answer their followers questions. They will return once they have discovered the answers.

The Gods have withdrawn their protection from Midgaard. Priests and Clerics are at a loss for an explanation.
The Real-estate Agent in Skara Brae has received word about the Gods withdrawing their protection from Midgaard. He no longer feels safe letting people change their hometown to Midgaard.

Your favorite Science Guy, Bill Nye, has moved into AddictMUD. He's set up shop in Skara Brae, Adrilankha, and in Bengloarafurd. His main business, random applies. Yes, in exchange for 40 quest points, he will put a random apply on your items. Simply hand him the item when you have enough quest points, he'll do his thing and give it right back.
We had to have a little talk with Bill Nye. He told us he refuses to setup shop in Midgaard or New Thalos. Apparently his instruments tell him it's not safe. We're not sure what he's talking about, but we're glad to have him so we just smile and nod. Nerds, who knows what they're thinking.

Room requests will *ONLY*, I repeat *ONLY* be done if you use the REQUEST command to ask for changes. If you try to send a tell directly, mudmail (or any other method of communication) one of the immortal staff for room or recall item related changes, you will either be ignored, laughed at, or killed for being a dork, and possibly denied all future requests for changes.

The horror! The pain! Oh my! Reports have spread across the world that forces out of our control have caused a short casting time to be added to Word of Death! The suffering! The torment! When will this abuse stop?!?

Scholars are now studying these mana springs that have been popping up around the world. They are beginning to suspect that something bad is happening to the flow of mana through the planet, causing concentrated areas of mana to burst through the ground in a liquid form, creating these springs until the concentration has dissipated. This unfortunately causes a drastic drain of mana on the area, wasting much of it. The source of the problem is still unknown.

Fringald has opened up shop in all the home towns. Look for "Fringald's House of Names" near you. In Midgaard, on Valor Road. In Skara Brae, look off Port Street just south of the Crossroads. In Adrilankha, right across from the Marriage Office. In New Thalos, look on the Medina. He has the magic to change your name if you desire. Cost is 3,000,000 gold coins. He has taken over for the Gods, they will no longer be performing this service.

Scholars are beginning to theorize (and in some cases prove), the possibility that mana does not come from within a being as much as previously thought. Mana seems to more come from without... the body of a mage merely stores and channels or "shapes" that energy to it's will. It is believed now that mana comes from the world, and that different parts of the world hold their own mana that we draw upon, which over time becomes depleted and must itself regen (there are no solid theories yet to explain where the world may get it's mana from; perhaps a higher plane of existence). Part of this is proven by the fact that some areas seem to hold more mana then others, and some places release mana at a faster or slower rate then others.
What does this all mean? No conclusions have been drawn yet, but some higher mages are concerned. Wizards and priests thus far seem to be the only mages that do not fall under this rule, either truly using the power from within to cast a spell, or being granted their powers from the Gods themselves.
More reports will be released as they become available.

In order to stop the madness, the status of Brazil and Aiela no longer load in the same room. Now maybe they will get along a little better!
Because of the great power that the statue of Brazil draws, the Garden of the Gods has a diminished mana supply, and regen has apparently slowed when you are in the same room with it. Once that mana is depleted, it will take time to replenish. Until then, mana regen will be slow, or not possible at all.
10/01/00 ----
The Gods have bestowed higher mana regen-rates in their temples. As a nice service for towns with a temple (to help convert followers), they have bestowed this honor on the recall-room.

The Thieves Guild is now teaching a new skills. HAGGLE. Use it to get better prices at various shops. But be careful, if you haggle too much, it could back fire, and you will be charged more!
Success rate and how good of a deal you get, is based on charisma. You cannot practice this skill to superb. The modified price is good until about a half hour from the time you last haggled with that shopkeeper.
08/26/99 ----
The Gods have become angry at their Clerics for abusing their granted powers. As a result they are lowering how much anyone can practice the CALM spell by 20% and increasing the time it takes to cast the spell.
05/08/99 ----
Wizards have learned a new skill. SCRIBE. Wizards can scribe scrolls with spells they have memorized. Once the spell has been scribed, you forget the spell. Low level blank scrolls can be purchased at magic shops. Mid-level scrolls are not yet available. High-level scrolls can be found on mobs in a couple areas.

The victim's flesh starts to rot, causing extreme pain, and damage. The spell lasts for 60 seconds, but damage is delt every 3 seconds! At level 30, this spell could do 600 points of damage within that minute, + magpoint modifiers! Spell can be cast multiple times for greater damage.

The Sorcerer guild has researched a new level 30 spell, Chaos. It's roughly like ripping someone into a void, ending their life. (area affect spell, almost the power of a nuclear device). As a result, Word of Death and Rainbow are a lower level now.
The Priest guild has researched 2 new smaller spells. They now are capable of learning Create Spring (make water flow from the ground) and Sense Life.
The Necromancer guild is working on new spells. A new one that has been completed is Unholy Servant. This spell traps a soul in a severed head, so that it may be called upon to serve the Necromancer at will (i.e. a head becomes a figurine, fully rentable).
Vampyric Touch is undergoing changes. Right now, the chance for saving throw has been removed, and the amount of HP the caster gets has been increasted, but be warned, other limitations will becoming before the end of the week. (They won't be quite so harsh).

Well, we're up at a new site! Thank Rich Goodson for allowing us space to run here. We are going to change things a bit, there's already changes that have been done on the code side, that imm's and players will both notice.
One is finally a clan code we're going to stick with! It may not be 100% bug-proof, but it's been well tested as far as one man with 5 characters online can test it :)
Other changes are listed in the changes command where they belong.
